What is therapy?

Psychotherapy can be applied to a wide range of issues, such as depression, stress, low self-esteem, anxiety, relationship difficulties, destructive, or addictive behavior, difficulty dealing with loss, difficult childhood experiences. There may be feelings of dissatisfaction, lack of fulfilment or loss of the sense of meaning.

The word 'psychotherapy' literally means 'to care for the soul.' While in session, the Therapist and the Client are in a private and confidential space, where they explore the issue that led the latter to seek therapy. The client may be very clear on what the issues, but not on how to approach or solve it. They may need help finding out what causes them to feel that something is wrong in their life. Several topics may be approached in this exploration process.

Through the sessions, you will access the resources necessary for your development. It is a place where you can find and recognize yourself as an 'individual' and build the tools to break away from ineffective behavioral, social and relational patterns. You will emerge as a unique and authentic identity. The work we carry out together is aimed at promoting greater self-knowledge, so that, you can better manage both your resources and difficulties later, in an adapted and effective way, without prejudice to yourself or others.

The regularity and length of the sessions are defined according to the client's needs and availability.

Its periodicity and duration are defined according to the needs and availabilities of the client, as well as the problems presented.

Old problems, a new perspective

Often, when facing painful experiences, we try to avoid them at all costs. Sometimes, we force ourselves to ignore and repress them. This is mostly a conscious process, yet, sometimes, we bury our experiences so deeply in our minds that we lose sight of them. Hence, the painful experiences of the past may continue to affect our present feelings and relationships.

Therapy can help you uncover your buried, unconscious feelings, behaviors, and attitudes towards others. Psychotherapy gives you a safe space where you will be accompanied in the course of discovering the meaning behind your emotions, allowing you to build a better knowledge of yourself and feel more control over your life.

Therapy sessions

In therapy, you will feel safe to explore your emotions and thoughts. By listening carefully, your therapist may begin to perceive your difficulties and help you see them more clearly, or from a different point of view. The therapist's role is not to judge or advise, but to act as a mirror, revealing a deeper knowledge and, in all likelihood, relieving the pain. The relationship between therapist and client is central. The experience of a relationship based on trust, where you are accepted and respected, is part of the psychotherapeutic process. Over time, we will get to know each other better, and in the process, you will be able to make better choices. Therapy may bring about change or help you to better accept things as they are. You can reach the sense of clarity that you lacked before. The client's autonomy is essential; the therapist will help you make your own choices, decisions, and take life in your own hands.

My approach is non-directive, so you are free to set your own pace, take the session where you want and speak of whatever you want in the sessions. Any improvement will come from within you, and not from any external influence. As a therapist, I will guide you by signaling what is happening beneath the surface of your words. As the sessions proceed, you will become better equipped to understand the causes of your current situation and rethink the difficulties you face, developing resources to deal with problems.

Psychotherapy will not only help you deal with your current or past difficulties but also to develop the energy and perseverance needed to overcome obstacles in your life. They will not disappear, but the resourcefulness you develop through therapy will stay with you forever. Whenever new obstacles arise, you will be stronger, more determined and confident. Whether in a time of crisis or stability, therapy will lead you to explore your emotions, thoughts, behaviors and relationships, so that you may grow confident and continue to develop in all areas of your life.

Every aspect of psychotherapeutic work is absolutely confidential.
